Wiki
A wiki is an online resource for a body of knowledge that is developed, organized, and maintained by a community of users in an ongoing, collective process of editing and improvement. As such, wikis offer a promising new approach to the means by which information can be shared and made available.
This Pathology wiki is currently in its pilot phase. It has been created in the spirit of precisely the kind of scientific and experimental collaboration that characterizes the common-enterprise university model as articulated in the vision for the NYU Department of Pathology. Ultimately, once the testing phase has been concluded, the wiki is meant to enable a community of scholars and clinicians to create, maintain, and refine an authoritative public portal as a guide to the wide variety of contributions in the field of pathology.
The collaborative and transparent nature of a wiki encourages communal efforts by providing open access to the processes of generating knowledge. In this respect, the scope of any wiki is defined and determined by its users and contributors. As a starting point, some basic clinical terms have been predefined for a general audience. Members of the pathology wiki are now invited to contribute to the development and clarification of these existing terms. Wiki members are also welcome to initiate new entries and to imagine different directions for this wiki, so that it may become a platform where the knowledge of pathologists in all its dimensions can be presented in meaningful and accessible ways.
We do ask that you adhere to common standards of courtesy and respect when you edit or modify entries on this site and it should go without saying that all contributions will be made in good faith and in accordance with accepted collegial decorum. In turn, you can assume the same for the contributions of your wiki-colleagues.
