Research and Clinical Interests
The lipid sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) plays critical roles in the immune system and vascular development. S1P is an indispensable guidance cue for lymphocyte migration and may promote inflammation. Furthermore, mice that cannot produce S1P die of hemorrhage at mid-gestation and S1P may support angiogenesis in adults. Despite its importance, we understand little about how production and distribution of S1P are regulated. We are investigating how S1P levels are set and how it affects immunity.
