Research and Clinical Interests
I'm currently studying the structural correlates of mouse IgA allotypes. In BALB/c mouse IgA, light (L) and heavy (H) chains are not covalently bound, as they are in other strains. I have shown that covalent binding of L chains to IgA H chains depends upon variable "extra" Cys residues present in the hinge regions of IgA from other strains. I am now investigating the contribution of amino acid differences amongst the IgA allotypes to epitopes recognized by anti-allotypic monoclonal antibodies.
