Research and Clinical Interests
Dr. Newcomb has a longstanding interest in brain tumors and their underlying molecular pathogenesis driving tumor initiation and progression. Her lab is currently investigating the mechanism of action of anticancer drugs on glioma cell lines, using in vitro and in vivo assays. She has developed the pre-clinical GL261 glioma animal model that mimics the aggressive and invasive growth behavior of the human disease to screen novel treatment approaches to combat this invariably fatal cancer.
