Research and Clinical Interests
Dr. Ghiso has a long-standing interest in the molecular pathogenesis of protein folding disorders, particularly Alzheimer's disease and unrelated hereditary conditions with comparable neurodegenerative pathology. Current research focuses in a) the importance of amyloid proteins and their post-translationally modified derivatives in the mechanism(s) of fibrillogenesis and dementia, b) their brain catabolism and clearance, and c) their significance as additional parameters of disease biomarkers.
