Research and Clinical Interests

Laboratory diagnosis of Tick-Borne Infectious Diseases. Studied the serological aspects of Lyme disease and collaborated with experts in the clinical diagnosis as well as with national agencies (CDC, NIH, FDA). Published extensively in Lyme disease diagnosis. Also developed laboratory diagnosis of Anaplasma phagocytophilum, agent of Human Granulocytic Anaplasmosis (HGA). Developed an extensive collection of A. phagocytophilum isolates that I plan to further characterize. With several decades of experience in diagnostic clinical microbiology and few years in molecular microbiology, I would like to pursue bringing more molecular tests to the diagnostic arena. These methods should be extended beyond microbiology to other areas of Clinical Pathology.
