Gastro-Intestinal and Liver Pathology

The NYU Department of Pathology Gastro-Intestinal and Liver Pathology Service provides expert surgical pathology diagnoses related to disorders of the GI tract, pancreas and liver. Transplantation pathology and native liver disease are covered by this service. Directed by Ruliang Xu, M.D., Ph.D., the NYU GI and liver pathologists also provide outreach diagnostic services for a number of private physician practices in the New York metropolitan area.

Turnaround Time
Biopsies have a turnaround timeframe between 24-36 hours. Courier pickup, report delivery and phone calls from our pathologists on all unusual diagnoses are standards of our outreach service. Operative specimens have a 3-5 day turnaround.
