Orthopedic Pathology Fellowship

Description: One Fellowship. We offer a one-year fellowship of training in Orthopedic Pathology. This program provides a wide experience in the pathology of bone, soft tissues and joint diseases, including tumors, tumor-like lesions, inflammatory and degenerative processes. The attending staff consists of 3 full-time orthopedic pathologists who are actively involved in the teaching program. There are 2 orthopedic oncologists who provide a large number of bone and soft tissue tumors to the department. The department of Radiology specializes in musculoskeletal disorders. The fellow is exposed to CT-Guided biopsies of bones and soft tissues that are performed by radiologists. He/She will learn the processing of large resection specimens including dissection, x-raying and mapping of tissue slabs. Particular emphasis is given to radiologic-pathologic correlation. The teaching program also includes monthly topics of orthopedic pathology that are discussed with the fellow using the existing files of the department. There are weekly inter-disciplinary conferences with bone radiologists and orthopedic oncologists, as well as intradepartmental conferences. The department houses documented study sets of teaching material that is available to the fellow for review. Our hospital has merged with New York University Hospitals Center and the fellow has access to the NYUHC library and other facilities. He/she is encouraged to participate in clinical research activities. This fellowship program is accredited for one year of training in anatomic pathology by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Requirements: Minimum of 2 years of previous experience in AP is required and must hold a NY State License.

Stipends: Commensurate with candidate’s level of training.
